Being a Placement Specialist gives me the unique opportunity to strengthen relationships with supervisors and staff in the DC area. Being a part of the DBCR community makes an impact on young lives by helping students succeed to their full potential.

Being a Placement Specialist is such a rich and rewarding job because I see how the students progress during their four years of working due to the mentoring of their supervisor(s) who enable our students to succeed in today’s job world. The supervisors truly make a difference.

The Training Specialist prepares students for success and continued learning in the workplace. This includes the summer Bridge for Success program and Corporate Work Study courses. The summer program prior to students’ matriculation at DBCR provides the basics of professional communication, business technology and using public transportation. During the year-long course their freshman year, students refine the skills learned in the summer as well as applying feedback garnered through the semi-annual performance evaluation. The Senior Capstone course gives students a chance to polish their resume, create a LinkedIn account and compose a digital portfolio of their accomplishments in the Corporate Work Study Program. Additional training is always available as needed or requested by supervisors.

Having worked behind the scenes last year as the Program Assistant in the Corporate Work Study Office, I am excited this year to begin as a Placement Specialist. In this role, I will be able to develop further relationships not only with our students, but also with our corporate partners and supervisors. I am excited to help our students grow, and to be a part of their experience and success here at Don Bosco!
