Don Bosco Cristo Rey works financially because the students have historically earned 60 percent of the cost of their education through our innovative Corporate Work Study Program. Families make a modest tuition contribution based on their ability to pay. Students need benefactors to bridge the gap between what they earn, what their families can afford to pay, and the cost of a quality DBCR education.
Our school community has been resilient since day one- even through a major global pandemic and a national reckoning on systemic racism in our country. Over the last 10 years we have maintained our reputation of 100% acceptance into college and college completion rates 3 times the national average for students whose demographic mirror those of Don Bosco students. Although we began the 2020-21 school year virtually, we continue to address some of the most challenging ills of today’s society by “being who we are, and by being it well,” our school motto.
Last year, Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School and Corporate Work Study Program launched a $10 million scholarship campaign with the hope of providing 200 scholarships each year to our students for ten years. Since the campaign’s launch, we have received $8 million in pledged support. This scholarship support is more important now than ever before. The family contribution many of our students’ families have been able to provide has declined given the impact of the COVID pandemic on their employment. Nearly 50% of our job sponsored opted to put their participation in the Corporate Work Study Program on hold for the year as they weathered the uncertainties of the business climate. This has resulted in a loss of over $1.3 million in revenue for the year.
If our kids, despite everything they have gone through, are still motivated and longing to learn and to better themselves, then would you be willing to reassure them with your support of our scholarship campaign? Let’s acknowledge the determination and resiliency of our student’s by giving them the means they need to be successful now and in the future.
Your gift to Our Campaign for Don Bosco Cristo Rey will provide scholarships to impact our students for the next 10 years. You are directly helping DBCR students break the cycle of generational poverty.
Thank you for making a difference in our lives and the lives of our families.
